There are now two gateways in the Southend area, one on PMR446 ch8 code 19, the other is on UKCB ch27. Both are connected to the 446muppets eQSO server and should be operational 24/7.

As a radio amateur down here in Southend On Sea I have been listening to the CB gateway in Southend for a while (I think it's in Shoebury). Are there many of these? How do we find them? Where are they registered? Is there a definitive list of them or the 446 eQSO gateways? Is 27 the normal CB channel? So many questions!

A couple of the guys down at the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Club (CARS) have been talking about these gateways but nobody seems to know much about them. I have also been discussing them with a whole group on interested CB users on other forums and they are hungry for more information. Where can I find out more?

Cheers

Thanks for the heads-up. How do you get OFCOM permission for these? I thought that gateways were specifically excluded from the 446 and 27 systems . . . have I missed something?

Cheers

Hi Stewart
I didn't ask OFCOM's permission to put a 27Mhz gateway on, I don't think (Eugene uk916) or (Adam mpt001) did either.
As for PMR446, connection to the telephone network is forbidden but not connection to the internet via computers.
The rule makers messed up a little there.
I have heard from a friend of a friend that OFCOM are turning a bling eye to gateways on 27Mhz but that is just hear say.

This guy must have started about the same time as us.
My PMR446 gateway has been running since 2003 uk018/L

I have heeard the same thing about OFCOM turning a blind eye when it comes to 27Mhz links. As long as you use your standard 4W and do not interfere with anything then you should be fine. Same applies to PMR446 on 0.5W

Helloooooo Eugene Speed:) Mr. Speed, your myspace page is killer...love the tunes

I work a lot of stations on that link on the XLink to the Aus. and it is very active Late at night between 1am - 6am UK time.  The only problem that gets me up in a bind is the SSB talking on the link frq. or next to the frenquency that the links is on. it cause a lot of problems.
